STATEMENT

This is my children’s prime time, my grandchildren’s coming of age and my Golden Years, really? In this xreal world, I think we need some new names for these stages of life. We have come a long way from what I used to consider real and I don’t want this to be my legacy.
In the past, people have said your work looks like it was done by many different people. That used to make me sad. I didn’t want to have a consistent body of work. My esthetic is about how I experience life and I use the materials that I find (recycling) to make statements. My art is a kind of visual storytelling that allows the viewer to wonder or wander and fill in their story.

This is best described in a poem by William Strafford, 1998 and quote by Thelonius Monk
The Way It Is
There’s a thread you follow. It goes among
things that change. But it doesn’t change.
People wonder about what you are pursuing.
You have to explain about the thread.
But it is hard for others to see.
While you hold it you can’t get lost.
Tragedies happen; people get hurt
or die; and you suffer and get old.
Nothing you do can stop time’s unfolding.
You don’t ever let go of the thread.
By William Strfford

“What you don’t play can be more important than what you do.”
By Thelonius Monk
