CAREN HELENE RUDMAN

STATEMENT

The Days of Quarantine Series began as an exploration to the possibility and probability concerning the risks of developing cancer. As we launched into isolation with the “Stay at Home Order” due to the Covid-19, I committed to making a piece a day, posting it on Instagram. Using cut up photographs, I created a world of silhouettes. Then, people began to comment that the “figures” were not “social distancing.” New perceptions were developing based on our experiences of the pandemic. A snapshot is a record of our lives, marking what was real and what happened in life. This series takes the images from past to recreate an abstraction of reality, creating an altered sense of time and place.
