Circle Of Life
Human-induced climate change, something many of us choose to ignore, threatens the survival of every species on Earth. Using still life photography, I create images that challenge the way we see the planet and see ourselves in relation to nature. These photographs are my way of holding humanity accountable for the ways we’ve hurt the environment on the most basic level - at our table. While this issue is global, I choose to focus on impacts observed and experienced within our ordinary and everyday life.
Bringing climate change into our home, to the table, is to give viewers the sense that it is possible to do something simple and elemental to protect this Earth that sustains us.
These images collectively reflect on our everyday activities and socially accepted
behaviors with combined elements of discomfort and reality that we repeatedly choose to ignore. What we consume serves itself as the medium that connects the disconnection between life and death - presence and absence - both with the viewer who momentarily sits at my table, and with those who the viewer invites to my table, fortheir physical and spiritual subsistence. Circle of life.
I know still life photography is not going to change the world, but I am convinced small efforts add up.
