STATEMENT
X Real – Abstraction
Giorgio Morandi, a famous artist wrote: “Nothing is more abstract than reality.”
My abstract work is created with geometric shapes and irregular pieces of all sizes and colors.
Industry uses basic and irregular shapes in the design and manufacturing of many products that we use. If we were to deconstruct one of these products, I trust we’d find basic shapes along with irregular shapes.
My paintings go direct to the source of the abstract. I paint basic shapes and affix irregular shapes to wooden panels. My irregular shapes are products of paintings placed in my washing machine. The wash and spin cycle detach pieces of the acrylic paint from the canvas. I collect these pieces and affix them to my surface. I give them a new life.
